After a brief illness, Mrs. Joanna “Joan” Peoples Brown, age 81 passed away into eternal glory on Sunday, May 19th, 2024. Born on February 8th, 1943, Joanna was the daughter of Bob and Lois Peoples of the Okolona Community of West Carter County. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 41 years, James “Jimmy” Douglas Brown in 2003.
Those left to cherish her memory are her sons: James “Jim Bob” Robert Brown, and wife Nicole and Douglas Todd Brown, both of Johnson City. Joanna was blessed with two grandsons: Robert Logan Brown and Landon Sutter Brown, both of Johnson City.
She is also survived by a sister, Patricia “Patsy” Crowe of Johnson City, a brother Robert “Bob” Peoples and wife Mary “Micky” Peoples of North Carolina, and a brother-in-law Charles William “Bill” Brown.
Joanna was an active member of Buffalo Valley Christian Church where she attended services throughout the entirety of her life. Throughout the years she was a Sunday School teacher, Bible School teacher, and the secretary for the Ladies’ Circle.
She retired from Johnson City Schools in 2003 after 30 years of service as a first-grade teacher at North Side Elementary. In her retirement Joanna enjoyed reading and studying the Bible as well as novels and magazines.
Family and friends will meet for a graveside service at Roselawn Memorial Gardens beginning at 2:00 pm on Thursday, May 23, 2024, those attending are asked to be there by 1:50 pm.
Pallbearers will be Logan Brown, Landon Brown, Jake Peoples, Marvin Garland, Eddie Tipton, Jeff Depriest, Phillip Coleman.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory can be sent to Buffalo Valley Christian Church, Youth Program at 111 Buffalo Valley Church Road, Johnson City, TN 37601.
