Joe F. Greer, 82, 2301 Nave Drive, Johnson City, died Sunday, April 26, 2009 at the Johnson City Medical Center. Mr. Greer was a native of Johnson County, TN and had lived most of his life in Johnson City. He was a son of the late Fred and Annis McQueen Greer. Mr. Greer was preceded in death by his wife, Okle Greer in 2006, and four sisters, Helen Moore, Virginia Garland, Gladys Hicks and Earlene Varn. He was a WWII US Army veteran. Mr. Greer was a member of Central Church of Christ and the Taylorsville Masonic Lodge #243. He retired from Westinghouse Electric. Survivors include two brothers, Jack Greer and his wife, Virginia, Mountain City, TN, Sam Greer and his wife, Sally, Johnson City; two sisters, Barbara Grindstaff, Okeechobee, FL and Ida Sue Ingram and her husband, Jack, Canton, GA and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service for Mr. Greer will be conducted at 8 PM Tuesday, April 28, 2009 from the Morris-Baker Funeral Home South Chapel. Mr. Tim Hall will officiate. Military graveside services will be held at 10 AM Wednesday at Monte Vista Memorial Park. Family and friends are asked to assemble at the funeral home at 9:30 AM and travel in procession to the cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Rick Moore, John Garland, Bill Greer, Donald Greer, Jim Greer, Chad Greer, Tommy Greer, Micky Grindstaff and Randy McQueen. Honorary pallbearers will be Central Church of Christs Retired Mens Breakfast Group. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Tuesday at the funeral home and at other times at the home of his brother, Sam Greer, 702 Galloway Drive, Johnson City. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, 508 Princeton Road, Johnson City, TN 37601 or the JCMC Hospice, 1807 W. Market Street, Johnson City, TN 37604.
