John C. Stout, 85, of 1913 Preston Road, Johnson City died Saturday, February 28, 2009 at his residence. He was a native of Carter County, but had lived most of his life in Johnson City. John was a son of the late Earl G. and Annie Glover Stout. He was a veteran of WWII, having served in the U. S. Army in the European Theater and was awarded three Bronze Stars. Before entering the military, he worked in the CC camps. John retired from A-1 Auto Parts and later owned and operated John Stout Transmissions. He was a member and trustee of the Piney Grove Free Will Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Mary L. Stout in 2004, also nine brothers and nine sisters. Survivors include: two daughters, Novella Grady of Johnson City, Velma Stout of Erwin; two sons, Gene Stout and J. C. Stout both of Johnson City; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. A funeral service is scheduled for Tuesday, February 3, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Piney Grove Free Will Baptist Church, under the direction of Rev. Paul Crowe. A committal service will follow in the Monte Vista Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be the trustees of the Piney Grove Free Will Baptist Church. Honorary pallbearers will be: Mink Ramsey, R. B. Ramsey, Frank Whitson, Roy Gouge, Harvey Anderson, Carl Williams, Dewey Crum, C. W. Smith and Glenn Hughes. The family will receive friends at Morris '' Baker Funeral Home on Monday, March 2, 2009 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Memorials may be made in the form of contributions to: the Piney Grove Free Will Baptist Church, 1004 E. Lakeview Drive, Johnson City, TN 37601.
