John Evert Moury, 97, passed away on Thursday, September 9, 2010 at the Appalachian ChristianVillage in Johnson City.He was a native of Providence, RI but had lived in Johnson City for many years. He was a son of the late Charles W. and Alma M. Johnson Moury. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Harold W., George E. and Charles E. Moury, and two sisters, Doris E. Sjogren and Ethel V. Johnson. Mr. Moury was a member of East Unaka Christian Church where he was an Elder Emeritus and formerly taught the Loyal Mens Class. He was a U. S. Army veteran. During World War II he served in Europe under Gen. Omar Bradley. Later he also served in the Korean Conflict. In the late 50s and early 60s he was stationed in Johnson City and worked at Mountain Home and then with the R.O.T. C. Program at ETSU. He was honorably discharged from the Army in 1963, and continued to work in admissions and records at ETSU until his retirement in 1983. Survivors include; one son, Dr. J. David Moury; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and several in-laws from his wifes family.Funeral services will be conducted from the Morris-Baker South Chapel at 8:00 pm Thursday, September 16, 2010. Dr. Wayne Emery will officiate. Burial will be held at 10:00 am Friday in the Monte Vista Memorial Park. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 until 8:00 pm on Thursday. For those who wish the family suggests that memorial donations be made to ones favorite charity.
