John Howard Bernhardt, 71, of Jonesborough, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, November 15, 2014 in Mountain City, TN. Mr. Bernhardt was an Ohio native and the son of the late Howard and Lillian Bernhardt. He had worked at H. H. Robertson, of Pittsburgh, PA, as vice president of the Non Union Construction Division; Flour City Architectural Metals, of Johnson City, TN; SPS Corporation, of Fort Wayne, IN; MR&D, of Raleigh, NC; Traco Architectural Systems, Inc., of Kingsport, TN; and UETHDA Head Start Program, of Kingsport, TN. Mr. Bernhardt was a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, where he sang on Praise Team and in the choir. He is survived by: his wife of 50 years, Marilyn Keith Bernhardt; four children, Timothy A. Bernhardt, Terri Jo Tonges (Jeff), Melinda Lou Wingrove (David), and Kelli Lynn Dillon (Ian); nine grandchildren, Jonathan R. Bernhardt, Timothy J. Bernhardt, Abbigail J. Tonges, Rebecca J. Tonges, Benjamin L. Tonges, Isaac L. Tonges, Jacob D. Wingrove, Lillian J. Wingrove, and Sophia E. Wingrove; and a sister, Judith A. Bernhardt. The family of Mr. John Bernhardt will receive friends from 11 am until 1 pm Saturday, November 29, 2014 in Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church. A memorial service will begin at 1 pm Saturday in the church. The committal service will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park.
