Mr. John Matthew Martin, age 89, of Johnson City, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, January 29, 2014, in the Johnson City Medical Center. Mr. Martin was a lifelong resident of Johnson City. He was the son of the late John C. and Lela Wilkerson Martin. In addition to his parents, several brothers and sisters also preceded him in death. Mr. Martin served in the U.S. Navy and retired from the U.S. Air Force after twenty-two years of service. He was an active member and deacon at Boones Creek Baptist Church for over forty years. Survivors include his wife of sixty-three years, Jewell Tilson Martin; two daughters, Pat Mattox and her husband John and Kathy McIntyre and her husband Duane; one son, Dr. Timothy Martin and his wife Faye; seven grandchildren, Erin, Chris, Paul, Andrea, Elizabeth, Matthew, and Hannah; three great grandchildren, Cara, Adeline, and Chloe. The family of Mr. John Matthew Martin will receive friends from 12 to 1 PM Saturday, February 1, 2014 in the Morris-Baker South Chapel. The funeral service will follow in the South Chapel at 1 PM. Rev. Kenneth Kyker and Evangelist Charles 'Toonie' Cash will officiate. The graveside committal service will follow in the Washington County Memory Gardens. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The Boone Dam Post # 4933 and the Tennessee National Guard will accord military honors. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Boones Creek Baptist Church, 304 Pickens Bridge Road, Johnson City, TN 37615.
