Mr. John Paul Thornton, age 58, of Johnson City, passed away Wednesday, January 2, 2013, at his residence. Mr. Thornton was a native of Jesup, Georgia. He was the son of the late Paul Thornton and Doris Jean Walker Thornton. In addition to his parents two sisters, Paula Puccio and Zelda Deloach also preceded him in death. Mr. Thornton was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran. He worked at the Johnson City Medical Center in housekeeping. Survivors include three daughters, Torrie Swenson and her husband Robert, Jessica Estep and her husband Daniel and Tisha Thornton; one sister, Marsha Guy; three grandchildren, Ashton Estep, Brianna Swenson and Dylan Swenson; close friend and companion Rhea Hinshew; and several nieces and nephews. The graveside committal service for John Paul Thornton will be conducted at 2:30 PM Monday, January 7, 2013 in the Mountain Home National Cemetery. Rev. Howard Estep will officiate. Active pallbearers will be the Rolling Thunder. The Boone Dam Post # 4933 and the Tennessee National Guard will accord military honors. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 PM Monday at Morris-Baker prior to the service.
