John Stanton Singleton

John Stanton Singleton, age 57, of Johnson City, Tennessee, found Peace and Light on December 7, 2017, enveloped in the love of his mother and sister at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center after a brave yet difficult battle with cancer. Born in Nashville, Arkansas on October 17, 1960, John lived the majority of his youth in Foreman, Arkansas where he found a love for animals and began his lifelong quest for freedom. In 1980, he became a United States Marine, providing proud and honorable service to his country and living the motto Once A Marine, Always a Marine for the remainder of his life. Stationed at Camp Pendleton, California and Camp Kinser, Okinawa, he discovered a natural talent for repairing anything mechanical. Considered by some a tinkerer, he had an incredible ability and desire to give new life to the discarded, always finding beauty in that which was broken. John was passionate in his love for others and leaves behind longtime friends who cherish his memory and grieve the loss of his generous spirit and selfless love. Blessed are those who have gone before... for they are with him now. Preceded in death by his father, Louie Frank Singleton of Johnson City, Tennessee, John is survived by his mother, Rheta Southall Phillips of Colonial Heights, Virginia; a brother, Tony Lahron Singleton of Hot Springs, Arkansas; a sister, Julianne Singleton McAllister of Colonial Heights, Virginia; a nephew, Michael Lucas McAllister of Nashville, Tennessee; and his beloved 13-year old cat, Miss Kitty, who provided him in life with much joy and comfort and continues her gift of comfort to his surviving family. John will be interred in Eternal Light near his father at the Mountain Home National Cemetery in Johnson City, TN, January 24, 2018, 11:30 am; services officiated by Chaplain Alpha Sanon. Friends and family are encouraged to attend his graveside service to celebrate his passionate fire for freedom of life and his ongoing Light of Love and Peace that will forever reside in the hearts of those who love him. Military graveside honors to be provided by the United States Marine Corps, Boone Dam VFW and Rolling Thunder.
