Johnny Lamons Walker, 91, of 311 Oak Glen Circle, Johnson City died Sunday, July 18, 2010 in the Johnson City Medical Center. Mr. Walker was a native of Knoxville and had lived in Johnson City since 1965. He was a son of the late Charles Andrew and Florence Lamons Walker. Mr. Walker was a retired veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He advanced to the rank of First Sergeant with thirty-two years of active duty. Mr. Walker served during World War II in the South Pacific, and the Korean War. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Johnson City. Mr. Walker 'Loved His Country'?, loved life, loved children, and loved animals. He enjoyed working with ceramics and was a very talented artist. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by: his first wife, Ruth Parris Walker in 1968; a son, Kemp Walker in 1998; one brother, Roy Walker; and two sisters, Trula Walker and Joan Dugger. Survivors include: his wife, Gayle Drennan Walker of the home; two daughters, Dr. Debra Diane Dewart of Austin, TX and Lynda Walker Fleming of Charlotte, NC; two grandchildren, Shannon ONeil Fleming and Shaun Michael Fleming; several nieces and nephews;four special cousins, Cindy Thompson, Pam Berry, John Berry and Emily Belt; and a pet dog, 'Annie Rose'? whom he adored. The family of Johnny Lamons Walker will receive friends from 5 to 7 PM Wednesday, July 21, 2010 in the Morris-Baker South Chapel. The funeral service will follow at 7 PM Wednesday in the South Chapel with Rev. Garland Thayer officiating. The committal service will be conducted at 10 AM Thursday, July 22, 2010 at the Monte Vista Memorial Park. Everyone will meet at Morris-Baker at 9:30 AM Thursday to go in procession to Monte Vista. Full Military Honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the Boone Dam VFW Post # 3382 assisted by soldiers of the Tennessee National Guard. Honorary Pallbearers will be William Fuller, Bobby Combs, Frank Blair, William Brown, Buddy Luttrell, Jimmy Cutshall, John Berry, Brian Thompson, Michael Gagnon, Glen Davidson, Roger Greene, Charles Sanders, Bruce Pruitt, John Blackmore, Gary Berry, Dean Walser,James Robinette, Dr. James W. Robinson, and Danny Peters. The family requests that memorial gifts be sent to the First United Methodist Church, Building Fund, 900 Spring Street, Johnson City, TN 37604
