Joseph ' Joe'? Bowers, 77, of 1402 Rock Garden Road, Johnson City died Thursday, November 06, 2008 at his residence. Mr. Bowers was a native of Carter County and had lived in Johnson City since 1955. He was a son of the late Rev. Emmert Caleb and Rowena Brown Bowers. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War and was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Bowers was a retired employee of Kennametal with seventeen years of service. He is preceded in death by: his parents; a son, Michael Alan Bowers; five brothers and nine sisters. Survivors include: his wife, Lola Honeycutt Bowers of the home; four daughters, Linda and her husband Robert Copas , Glenda Katie Bowers, Joletta and her husband Mike Woodward, and Cindy and her husband Calvin Clay, all of Johnson City; one son, Robert and his wife Loretta Bowers of Johnson City; one brother, Rev. Horace and his wife Violet Bowers of Elizabethton; one sister, Lena Peters of Elizabethton; eleven grandchildren, Christopher and his wife Tammy Walker, Adam Bowman, Ben and his wife Elizabeth Bowman, Joseph and his wife Whitney Bowman, Robert Carl Bowers II, Cassie Bowers, Callie and her husband Josh Thompson, Lola Walker, Glenda and her husband Chris Milner, Carolyn and her husband Matt Dayton, and Aaron Clay ;four great grandchildren, Beth Greenwell, Donna Walker, Sarah Ford, and Kayden Dayton; three step grandsons, Matthew Woodward, Aaron Woodward, and Nathan Milner; a special niece, Carolyn and her husband Charles Bishop; several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service for Joseph 'Joe'? Bowers will be conducted at 8 PM Friday, November 7, 2008 in the Morris-Baker South Chapel. Mike Woodward and Rev. Hollace Ford will officiate. A graveside service will be conducted on Saturday, November 8, 2008 in the Tri-Cities Memory Gardens. Military Honors will be accorded by the VFW Post # 3382 of Kingsport along with the Tennessee National Guard. Everyone will meet at Morris-Baker at 12:15 PM Saturday to go in procession to the cemetery. Active Pallbearers will be Grandsons. Honorary Pallbearers will be Harold Scalf, Jack Potter and Herman Stout. The family will receive friends at Morris-Baker from 6 to 8 PM Friday prior to the service. The family wishes to extend their appreciation to Dr. Gary Bush, MD and the staff of Medical Center Hospice for their loving care of Mr. Bowers.
