Joseph William Conrey

April 30, 1918 — August 21, 2007

Joseph William 'Jay'? Conrey of 1916 Sherwood Drive, Johnson City, died Tuesday, August 21st, 2007 at his residence surrounded by his family. He was a native of Central City, Kentucky and had lived in Johnson City since 1958. He was the son of the late Virgil I. Conrey and the late Laura Craig Conrey. Before his retirement, Mr. Conrey worked in sales for Reliance Universal. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church.He was a WWII Army veteran. Jay was a graduate of Western Kentucky University where he played football and basketball and all through his life, enjoyed 'his games'?. He also loved fishing and later in his life, walking on the beach at Sanibel Island looking for shells. Jay will always be remembered for his affable smile. He was preceded in death by a brother, Earl Conrey; a son, Phillip C. Conrey and a great granddaughter, Autumn Rayne Combs. Survivors are his wife, Margaret Settle Conrey; one daughter, Carol Conrey Combs and her husband Mark; seven grandchildren, Brandon Combs and his wife Terra, Anthony Combs, Laura Combs, all of Johnson City, Allison Combs Pollard of Durham, North Carolina, Andy Conrey, Craig Conrey, Shawn Conrey, all of Port Orange, Florida and 11 great grandchildren. Funeral services for Mr. Conrey will be at Morris-Baker Funeral Home South Chapel, Friday night, August 24th at 8:00 PM. Rev. Baron Eliason will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 until 8:00 PM on Friday. Graveside services and burial will be Saturday morning at Monte Vista Memorial Park at 10:00 AM. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery. Pallbearers will be Clayton Vandiver, W. L. 'Pete'? Holmes, Fred Brandt, C. C. Marshall, Fred Whitson, Keith Saults, Jim Parrott and Jimmy Parrott. For those who wish, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to either the American Cancer Society, 508 Princeton Road, Johnson City, TN 37601 or to Johnson City Medical Center Hospital Hospice, 101 Med Tech Parkway, Suite 100, Johnson City, TN 37601.
