Josephine Edith Nave

January 26, 1925 — July 15, 2016

Mrs. Josephine Nave, 91, of Richmond, VA, formerly of Johnson City, TN and Sarasota, FL, passed away Friday, July 15, 2016 at Sitter and Barfoot Veterans Care Center in Richmond, VA. Mrs. Nave was born in Mooresburg, TN. She was a daughter of the late Lefterage and Jessie Seals Pease. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her sister, Minnie French; brother, Maj. Homer Pease; and husband, Ralph M. Nave. A proud United States Marine to the end, she exhibited a fierce independence that only those who truly knew Jo could appreciate and understand. She was passionate about her work as a nurse, her service to the Corps and her role as a beloved Mother and Grandmother. In her last months of life, she took pride in spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren when able and her daughter almost daily. While it is always difficult to say goodbye, even when you see the end coming, her loss is tempered by the gifts that she left behind ? namely, her love of others and her dedication to family that live on in those who survive her. Of the heavens and night sky someone once wrote that, ?Perhaps they are not the stars, but rather openings in Heaven where the love of our lost ones pours through and shines down upon us to let us know they are happy.' Josephine is now with her beloved husband Ralph, so there is no doubt that she is as happy as the day they met. There is also absolutely no doubt that if anyone could find a way to speak to us from heaven, it would be Jo. So the next time you gaze upon the night sky and those wonderful openings from Heaven, take a moment to remember Jo. Also take comfort in knowing that she is reunited with the love of her life and never forget that her unwavering love for us is always there for us to see - in that beautiful night light that shines down upon us from Heaven. Semper Fi. She is survived by: one daughter, Connie Supple and her husband Frank, of Richmond, VA; grandson, Jeffrey D. Scaggs, his wife Mary, and their two children, Sarah and Adam, all of Manila, Philippines; grandson, Christopher Scott Scaggs, his wife Melanie, and their son, Jimmy, all of Virginia Beach, VA; two devoted nephews, James Cochran and George Cochran, Jr.; sisters-in-law, Anna Oliver, Mary Nave, and Linda Nave; and the Nave family. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff of Sitter and Barfoot Veterans Care Center and Hunter Holmes McGuire VA Medical Center of Richmond, VA for their compassion and care. A graveside service is scheduled for 11 am Tuesday, July 19, 2016 at Monte Vista Memorial Park. Rev. Mike Richards will officiate. The Boone Dam VFW Post 4933 will accord military honors. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Please meet at Morris-Baker Funeral Home at 10:30 am Tuesday to go in procession to the cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758516, Topeka, KS 66675-8516 or to Parkway Baptist Church, 8508 Beaver Bridge Rd., Moseley, VA 23120.
