Josephine West, 93 of Johnson City died peacefully on March 28, 2020. She was born July 22, 1926 to Joseph Flynn Sullivan and Esther McHann Sullivan in Webb, Mississippi. She was preceded in death by a son, John Edward West, Jr. killed in action in Vietnam 1969 and by her husband of 62 years John Edward West, Sr. in 2006.
Mrs. West was a woman whose faith was a central tenet of her life. She was a homemaker and talented artist winning awards for her china painting. She was an outstanding seamstress and enjoyed traveling the world with her husband. She volunteered at Asbury for many years and was active in her church. She was a long time member of First Presbyterian Church and a current member of Central Baptist Church, Johnson City.
Survivors include one daughter, Jo Ann West, Atlanta, Georgia; two sons, Terrance Flynn West (Nannette), Kissimmee, Florida; David Russell West (Marlene), Johnson City; six grandchildren, Dr. Scott Joseph Goldman (Lisa), Sudbury, MA; Julie Elaine Goldman Caran (Kevin), Staunton, VA; John Edward West (Kristine), Mays Landing, NJ; Charmiaine Otto (Michael) Van Alstyne, TX; James Robert West (Ashley), Charleston, SC; Katherine West Masters (Drew), St. Louis, MO.
Mrs. West has eight great grandchildren; Joshua Goldman, Sadie Goldman, Max Goldman, Magnolia West, Myles West, Mandalynn West, Abinet and Colette Caran.
The family thanks Dr. Rachel Monderer, Franklin Woods ER staff, JCMC Trauma ICU, NHC, and Caris Hospice for the care and consideration they showed to Josephine and her family over these last days.
A graveside service will be conducted at Mountain Home National Cemetery at a later date.
