Joyce ODell Anders, 89, of Johnson City passed away Sunday, January 12, 2014. She was the daughter of the late James Rex ODell and Arthur Mae Smalling ODell. She was born August 25, 1924 in Johnson City, Tennessee. She is survived by: four sons, William Rex (Becky) Anders, Bruce Kelly (Cindy Jones) Anders, Kent Randall (Rose Cobb) Anders and Keith Douglas (Beverly) Anders; ten grandchildren, Tammy Moss, Christie (Frank) Rutledge, Samantha Joyce Anders, Marcus Dean (Abby Christina) Anders, Jared Alan Anders, Tucker Nathaniel (Kristin) Anders, Abigail Rose Anders, Christopher Anders, Benjamin (Nicole) Anders and Elliott Anders; four great grandchildren, Hunter Moss, Taylor Moss, Michael Rutledge and Dustin Rutledge. Joyce is preceded in death by her husband the late Claude Anders; son, Cy Warden Anders; sister, Charlotte Hall and brother-in-law, Ronald Hall. Joyce was a graduate of Science Hill High School. She was very proud of the Bachelor Degree she earned from East Tennessee State College. She acquired her Library of Science Certification after raising five sons, taught school at Bluff City High School and worked at the Watauga Regional Library and the Jonesboro Public Library. Joyce loved flowers and became a member of local garden clubs, enjoyed reading of books and even the feel of them, the beach and the sun and the elegance and beauty of figure skating. She also enjoyed outdoors, working with plants and flowers. Her many activities included the PTA, Homeroom Mother and JROTC. The family of Joyce ODell Anders will receive friends 5:00pm to 7:00pm Thursday January 16, 2014 in the South Chapel at Morris Baker Funeral Home. An evening funeral service will begin following visitation at 7:00pm in the South Chapel. Burial will take place on Friday January 17, 2014 at the Monte Vista Memorial Park. Procession to cemetery will leave promptly from Morris Baker Funeral Home at 11:00am Friday. In lieu of flowers please make donations in to: Friends of the Library c/o WCJL, 200 Sabin Dr. Jonesborough, Tennessee 37659.
