She was the daughter of the late Theodore Payton and Katie Townsend Payton, a lifelong resident of Johnson City, and a 1944 graduate from Science Hill High School. She retired from the VA Medical Center, Mountain Home, following over 42 years of service. She was a member of Central Baptist Church and the Christian Homemakers Sunday School Class. The year 2017 marked three very important milestones in her life; her 90th birthday in January, her 35th year as a breast cancer survivor in March, and had she lived until June 7th, her and Glenn?s 70th wedding anniversary. She treasured time with her husband and son, and they enjoyed many marvelous trips together. She was especially fond of riding roller coasters, having ridden her last one at the age of 89. She enjoyed reading, dining out, taking care of her family, going to church, and anything chocolate. She especially cherished holidays, but she found beauty in all seasons of the year. All who knew her loved her sparkling eyes, warm smile and sweet spirit. She treated everyone with love and respect. A former volunteer at Johnson City Medical Center and for the Meals on Wheels program, she was also very active in the Hands Around the Table meals at Central Baptist. She also helped in the Loaves and Fishes Ministry. The family would like to thank the amazing staff of the Waters of Johnson City for their gentle care in her last weeks of life and the ministers of Central Baptist for their loving support.
