Karen Sue Simmons, 71, of Johnson City, passed away on Saturday, May 23, 2020, at the Life Care Center of Gray.
She was a native and lifelong resident of Johnson City, a daughter of the late James Simmons Jr. and Betty Anne Brumitt Simmons.
Karen was a member of Hampton Christian Church.
She was an animal lover and a people lover who worked as a caregiver for most of her life, a job that suited her golden heart and kind personality. She was outgoing and adventurous, ready for anything and wanting to try everything. Karen loved to see a smile, and will always be remembered for her humor.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by: three siblings, Auty John Calhoun, Manley Eugene Calhoun, and Tina Stallard; and her two grandmothers, Winnie Simmons and Lucy Brumitt.
Those left to cherish her memory are: her daughter, Kimberly Simmons Jones; three siblings, Mary Jane Williams, Beverly “Gina” Simmons, and Danny Simmons; two aunts, Beverly Hagy and Betty Jo Glover; several cousins, including Luci B. Rudsill; many nieces and nephews; and special friends, Melissa Eggleton, Susan Bare, Fern Hyder Greenway, Judy Estep Allred, Marina Correll-Scherle, and Sharon Doss.
A memorial celebration will be held at a later date.
