Kathryn Mitchell Herd

Kathryn (Kay) Estelle Mitchell Herd passed away August 7, 2008, at Johnson City Medical Center following a brief illness. Kay was born to William and Kathryn Mitchell on September 3rd, 1933. She earned her degree from the University Of Rochester School Of Nursing. She was a native of Plattsburgh, New York and had lived in Johnson City since 1978. Upon her retirement as a registered nurse at Northside Hospital, Kay was an active volunteer in multiple community organizations including Friends of the Library, Chapter AQ PEO Sisterhood, and Mothers Against Drunk Driving for which she spent endless hours monitoring drunken driving cases in the local courts. She also served in a variety of capacities in the Greenbriar Homeowners Association, including president and treasurer. Kay is survived by her children, Jeff (and Valerie) Herd, Dan (and Katrina) Herd, and Barbara (and Drew) Vance. She is the proud grandmother of five and the great-grandparent of one. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, August 16th at 2pm at Morris Baker Funeral Home in Johnson City. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Kays memory to the Friends of the Library, Johnson City Public Library, 100 West Millard Street, Johnson City, TN 37601.
