Kelver B. Mullins

Rev. Kelver Mullins, 80, born in Duty, Va., went to be with his Lord on October 7, 2010 with his family by his side. A long-time resident of Johnson City, he is a 1948 graduate of Science Hill High School and a 1952 graduate of Carson Newman College. He continued his education at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary graduating in 1954. Rev. Mullins served as the Educational Director of First Baptist Church in Morristown and Red Bank Baptist Church in Chattanooga. After being ordained in his home church at Temple Baptist, he ministered in the Holston Baptist Association including Bethel Baptist, Cherry Grove Baptist, Central Baptist - Erwin, and was the first pastor at Gray Southern Baptist Church. After retiring he served several churches as interim. Rev. Mullins was a current member of Central Baptist Church, Johnson City. He was preceded in death by: his parents, Tollie and Maxie Mullins; daughter, Judy Mullins Freels; brothers, Rolfe, Darrell, and Raiford Mullins; and nephew, Michael Mullins. Survivors include: his loving wife of 57 years, Mattie Carroll Mullins, of the home; son, Andrew (Tonya) Mullins, of Chattanooga; daughters, Sanda (Shannon) Salts, of Gray, and Rebecca (Stephen) Starnes, of Greensboro, NC; grandchildren, Zachery (Jessica) Lane, Amber (Jonathan) Jones, Drew Mullins, Sheree, Selinda, Forrest, and Hunter Salts, and Isaac and Caleb Starnes; brother, Bert (Marjorie) Mullins, of Abingdon, VA; sisters Gerry (Lee) Counts, of Johnson City, Ann (Joe) Stacker, of Brentwood, Gail (Bill) Bristow, of Knoxville; and sister-in-law Catherine Mullins, of Raleigh, NC. There are also many cousins, nephews, and nieces.
