Larry B. VanHoy, 72, of Watauga, died Thursday, September 4, 2014 at the Johnson City Medical Center. He was a native of Maryville, son of the late James H. and Naomi Lee Dempsey VanHoy. Larry was an iron worker involved in the construction industry. He was a Vietnam veteran having served in the U. S. Air Force and was a member of the American Legion Post 49. Larry was also a member of the Watauga Christian Church and the Watauga Masonic Lodge #622. Survivors include: his wife, Kathy Friesland VanHoy of the home; a son, Larry Scott VanHoy of Elizabethton; two daughters, Kimberly Dawn VanHoy of Johnson City and Tammy W. VanHoy of Elizabethton; a brother and sister-in-law, Ronald and Mary VanHoy of Watauga; ten grandchildren, Jeffery, Christopher, Sarah, Aaron, Justin, Alex, Jordan, Emily, Austin and Eli; two nephews, Travis and Derrick; a niece, Ronica; special cousins, Bugs, Judy, Jackie and Carol; many friends. A graveside service will be conducted on Monday, September 8, 2014 at 10:00 am under the direction of Pastor Randy Hensley. Military honors will be accorded by the Boone Dam VFW and the Tennessee National Guard. Friends and family are asked to assemble at the Morris - Baker Funeral Home to leave in procession at 9:30am to the cemetery.
