Larry Dale Coleman

Mr. Larry Dale Coleman, 73, Jonesborough, passed away Saturday, May 24, 2014 in the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. Mr. Coleman was a Washington County native and a son of the late Thomas Haskel Coleman, Sr. and Marie Templeton Coleman. Mr. Coleman proudly served his country for twenty-one years with the US Air Force and was a Vietnam veteran. He completed basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas. He was stationed with the 3398th Student Squadron at Keesler AFB in Mississippi then the 3884th Student Squadron for School of Aviation Medicine at Gunter AFB in Alabama. After training, he was stationed at the following bases as a medical administrative superintendent: 354th Tactical Fighter Wing, Myrtle Beach AFB, SC; 6022nd Hospital, Johnson AFB Japan, Fifth Air Force 600 Support PACAF Squadron, Fuchu AFB, Japan; 464th TAC Hospital, 464th Combat Support Group, Pope AFB, NC; 12th USAF Hospital, Republic of Vietnam; DET 4 375th MAC, Aeromedical Airlift Wing, Military Airlift Command, Travis AFB, CA; USAF Clinic Chicksands, RAF Chicksands, England; and 9th Air Force TAC, Shaw AFB, SC. Mr. Coleman received several medals for meritorious service and valor. Mr. Coleman obtained an Associate of Applied Science in Health Care Management from Community College of Air Force, a Bachelor of Arts in Health Care Management from Park College, and a Masters of Business Administration from East Tennessee State University. He was a member of Mayfair United Methodist Church in Kingsport. In addition to his parents, one sister, Kathy Coleman, and one brother, Thomas Haskel Coleman, Jr., preceded him in death. Survivors include: his wife of 56 years, Dana Geraldine Davis Coleman, of the home; three sons, Nicky Aaron Coleman, Timothy Dale Coleman and his wife Teresa, and Brett Matthew Coleman and his wife Georgina; one daughter, Kathy Anita Coleman Yerke; two brothers, Charles Edward Coleman and his wife Leona, and Dana Melton Coleman and his wife Susan; nine grandchildren, Amanda Malone and her husband Tyler, Brittany Couch and her husband Marshall, Callie Coleman, Lance Coleman and his wife Tara, Larry Coleman, David Yerke, Kevin Coleman, Michael Coleman, and Traci Rogers; and one great grandchild, Lacey Coleman. The family of Mr. Larry Dale Coleman will receive friends from 6 to 7 PM Tuesday, May 27, 2014, in the Morris-Baker South Chapel. The funeral service will follow at 7 PM with Rev. Rhonda Hobbs officiating. The graveside committal service will be conducted at 10:45 AM Wednesday, in the Mountain Home National Cemetery. Chaplain Kevin Holmes will officiate. Active pallbearers will be Lance Coleman, Larry Coleman, Tyler Malone, and Marshall Couch. Honorary pallbearers will be Kevin Coleman, Michael Coleman, and David Yerke. The Boone Dam Post # 4933 and the Tennessee National Guard will accord military honors. Family and friends are requested to meet at the funeral home by 10:15 AM Wednesday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family would like to extend thank you to Dr. Jack Whitaker, Dr. Booze, Dr. Rush, and Dr. Hamby. They would also like to thank all the doctors and staff on C-2 floor of the VA Medical Center and to Dr. Connie Holladay and staff at the VA Community Life Center for their special care of Mr. Coleman. A special thanks to the members of VFW Post 2108 Johnson City, TN; American Legion, Air Force Association; and Rolling Thunder.
