LaVerne Hale Snook Mackey, 87, of Johnson City, died June 15, 2016, at her home. LaVerne was born in Pennsylvania but had lived in Washington County, TN most of her life. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Nellie Snyder Hale, and her first husband, John Donald Snook, Jr. LaVerne is survived by her husband and soul mate, Donald Lee Mackey; her loving daughter and son, Diane Marable and husband Henry, of Johnson City, and John Donald Snook III and wife Jennifer, of Knoxville. LaVerne graduated from Boones Creek High School and East Tennessee State College with a degree in Education (Business and Music), and had one of the last lifetime teaching certificates issued by the state of Tennessee. After teaching seventh grade in Washington County, she worked in accounting and at Blue Ridge Glass in Kingsport. She also worked as an income tax preparer since 1950. LaVerne was a member of Boones Creek Baptist Church and later, Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church. She enjoyed art and painting and she loved to travel. Most of all she loved all her relatives and dear friends. The family of LaVerne Hale Snook Mackey will receive friends from 5 to 7 PM Friday, June 17, 2016, in the Morris-Baker Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 7 PM with Rev. Mark Gooden officiating. The graveside committal service will be conducted at 11 AM Saturday, in the Monte Vista Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Minister, family and friends are requested to meet at the funeral home by 10:30 AM Saturday to go in procession to the cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests that any donations be made in LaVerne?s memory to the agency of your choice.
