Leah Fleenor Green

'Her children arise and call her blessed.'? Proverbs 31:28 Leah Fleenor Green departed this life and entered into the joy of the Lord August 4, 2011, at her daughters home in Trinity, North Carolina. She was 85. Leah was known for her deep faith, humble spirit and gentle ways. Above all she loved the Lord, her family, and friends. Mildred Leah Fleenor was born September 26, 1925, in Bluff City, Tennessee, the daughter of the late William Charles and Mattie Mildred McClelland Fleenor. Her mother died when she was only two years old. Her father cared for the family until his death when she was five. At the age of nine, she and her four siblings were given a home and raised with much love by their Aunt Blanche and Uncle Charlie Latture, both of whom are deceased. She was also preceded in death by her two brothers, Joseph Isaac Fleenor, killed in WWII, and William Charles Fleenor, Jr. She was married to the late Joseph 'Joe'? Green, who died in 1991. They met through correspondences during WWII. They lived in Johnson City and enjoyed forty four years of marriage. Leah attended Bluff City High School where she played on a Tennessee State Champion Womens High School Basketball Team. Her love of sports continued throughout her life. In 1947, she graduated from East Tennessee State College with a B.S. degree in Home Economics. After a brief career in teaching, she dedicated her life to her faith and family. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, true friend and servant to those around her. She was an active member in her church, Munsey Memorial United Methodist, where she served as Past President and member of the United Methodist Women and Circle Leader for over a decade. In 2001, she moved to her daughters home in Trinity, North Carolina, where she joined First United Methodist Church of High Point. She will be deeply missed by her surviving children and their families: Judy Green Layne and her husband, Ed, of Trinity, North Carolina, Richard L. 'Dick'? Green and his wife, Karen Carden Green, of Johnson City, Tennessee, and Thomas David Green and his wife, Catherine McNeela Green of Stoney Creek, North Carolina. Surviving grandsons are Joseph 'Jody'? Carden Green and his wife Julie of Nashville, Tennessee, David Matthew Green and wife Ashley of Brentwood, Tennessee, and Robert Edward Layne of Trinity, North Carolina. Leahs four great granddaughters are Lucy, Katie, Heidi and Claire Green. She was also survived by her two sisters, Martha Fleenor Green and Mary Don Fleenor Carrier of Bluff City, Tennessee. Many nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive. The family extends their sincere thanks to Mrs. Greens caregiver and trusted friend, Beverly Rhodes. Beverly brought great joy, comfort and love as well as the much needed help to Mama Leah and her family. A Service of Resurrection Faith will be held Sunday, August 7th at 3:00 p.m. in the sanctuary of Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church, Johnson City, Tennessee. Following the service, family and friends will proceed to Monte Vista Memorial Park, Garden of the Last Supper, for the committal service. Her sons, son-in-law and grandsons are honored and blessed to be her pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:30 p. m. until time of the service.
