Leland Jarnigan Lancaster

Leland Jarnigan Lancaster, Sr., of Johnson City, passed away Sunday, December 13, 2009 after a lengthy illness. He was born September 21, 1935 in Greeneville, Tennessee, and was the younger son of Eustis Lancaster, Jr. and Helen Addleburg Lancaster. He was preceded in death by his parents, older brother Eustis A. Lancaster, III and nephew James H. Horner, M.D. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Joan Honeycutt Lancaster, of the home; son, Leland Jarnigan Lancaster, Jr., M.D., of Nashville; daughter, Jennifer Howell Lancaster, of Johnson City; two sisters, Joan Addleburg Lancaster, of New York City, and Helen Lancaster Horner and husband, Nathan P. Horner, M.D., of Greeneville; brother-in-law, Dale Honeycutt and wife Janelle, of Knoxville; and three nephews, Nathan P. Horner, of New Orleans, Mark Honeycutt, of Knoxville, and Joel Honeycutt, of Chattanooga. He was a graduate of Science Hill High School, Johnson City; Farragut Naval Academy, St. Petersburg, Florida; and he earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Miami (Florida) where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. In Johnson City, he was the Owner and President of Lancaster Associates, Incorporated and more recently a consultant with Advanced Office Concepts, Johnson City. He was a member of St. Johns Episcopal Church, Johnson City where he served as a vestry member and senior warden. During Lelands adult life, he was an active member of the community serving as President of the Rotary Club, Chairman of the Board of Watauga Area Mental Health, member of Johnson City Zoning Board of Appeals, President of Johnson City Country Club, President of the Hurstleigh Club, and was a charter member of the Johnson City Power Squadron. He enjoyed family gatherings, Saturday mornings with close friends, and a life-long interest in boating and sailing. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Building Fund of St. Johns Episcopal Church, 500 North Roan Street, Johnson City, TN 37601 or American Macular Degeneration Foundation, PO Box 515, Northampton, MA 01061-0515 (http://www.macular.org/howhelp.html#memgift). The service of celebration of Lelands life will be held Wednesday, December 16, 2009 at 3:00 pm at St. Johns Episcopal Church, Johnson City, with receiving of friends beginning at 1:00 pm in the natharex of St. Johns Episcopal Church. Honorary pallbearers are: Buck Bacon, Robert Bagby, Fredrick Brandt, Tom Carr, William J. Cone, M.D., William Conley, Bob Evans, Jim Hunter, Louis Gump, C.C. Marshall, Carroll Murphy, J.D. Swartz, and Norman Thomas.
