Lewis Daniel Whaley, 74, Jonesborough, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 2, 2018. Lewis was a retired computer systems programmer, having worked for 36 years in East Tennessee and Southwest Virginia. Lewis served in the United States Army from 1961-1964, completing his service at the rank of Sergeant. He served with the 596th Signal Support Company, 97th Signal 'Tried and True' Battalion, 7th Army in Kaiserslautern, Germany. He was of the Christian faith. Lewis was preceded in death by: his parents, Paul and Lou Elswick Whaley; brothers, Freddie Lee Whaley, Carlos Calvin Whaley, and Paul Whaley Jr.; and sisters, Geneva Whaley and Christina June Whaley King. Lewis is survived by: his wife of 52 years, Mollie Hughes Whaley; one son, Vincent Z. Whaley and fianc? Stacy Holden; two daughters, Kimberly Valk and husband Mark, and Nikki Wilson and husband Matthew; grandchildren, Claire Anneke Valk, Ansley Brooke Wilson, Jacob Daniel Whaley, and Lucas Xavier Valk; one sister, Lena Honeycutt Ensor; one brother, Will David Whaley; and several nieces and nephews. The family of Lewis Whaley will receive friends from 6 PM until 8 PM Thursday, September 6, 2018, at Morris-Baker. A committal service will be held Friday at 10 AM at Mountain Home National Cemetery, with Dr. Robert Russell officiating. Please meet at the cemetery by 9:50 AM. Pallbearers include: Jacob Daniel Whaley, Joshua Wade, Mark Valk, Matthew Wilson, Tommy Honeycutt and Tim Taylor. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children?s Research Hospital at www.stjude.org/donate.
