Lillian Agnes Holmes

Lillian Agnes Nunez Holmes, 85, 136 Headtown Road, Jonesborough, died unexpectedly, Sunday, August 26, 2007 at the Johnson City Medical Center. Mrs. Holmes was a Johnson City native and had lived most of her life in Jonesborough. She was a daughter of the late Robert E. and Lillie Rae Swift Nunez. Her husband, Clarence Edward Holmes, one sister, Dorothy Ruth Hogan, and one granddaughter, Annette Marie Holmes, preceded Mrs. Homes in death. She was graduate of Science Hill High School, attended Nazareth Academy in Nazareth, KY, was a substitute teacher in the Washington County School System, a former Den Mother in the Cub Scouts, and an active member of the Jonesborough Senior Citizens Center. Mrs. Holmes was a long time member of St. Marys Catholic Church. Survivors include five sons, Clarence Edward Holmes Jr, Denison, TX, James W. Holmes and his wife, Debbie, Elizabethton, Thomas L. Holmes and his wife, Kim, Johnson City, Danny C. Holmes and his wife, Cindy, Jonesborough and John A. Holmes, Jonesborough; two sisters, Helen Theresa Wilson, Johnson City and Betty Louise Perry, Huntsville, AL; seven grandchildren, Robert Edward Holmes, Anthony Holmes, Howard Edward Holmes, Lauren E. Holmes, Jenna Holmes, Jarred Holmes and John Frye; three great grandchildren, Julian Holmes, Jordan Holmes and Nicholas Jones and several nieces, nephews and cousins. A committal service for Mrs. Holmes will be held at 10 AM Wednesday, August 29, 2007 at Monte Vista Memorial Park. Father Gerard Finucane will officiate. Family and friends are asked to assemble at the funeral home at 9:30 AM and travel in procession to the cemetery. Pallbearers will be Michael Stott, Harold Whitson, Joe Murray III, Danny C. Holmes, Jarred Holmes and Gordon Lewis Walls. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Tuesday at the funeral home and at other times at the home of her sons, James W. Holmes, 807 Quail Ridge Court, Elizabethton and Thomas L. Holmes, 3304 Buckingham Drive, Johnson City. In lieu of flowers, for those who wish, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Marys Catholic Church, 2211 E. Lakeview Drive, Johnson City, TN 37601 or the Jonesborough Senior Citizens Center, Jonesborough, TN 37659. The family wishes to express a special thanks to the staff at Colonial Hills Retirement Center.
