Elizabeth Loraine Campbell, known as 'Loraine'? to her family and friends, passed away at the Johnson City Medical Center (JCMC) on the morning of January 1, 2011. She was 86. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Lee Campbell, a retired long-time employee of Mason-Dixon Trucking and U.S. Navy veteran. Mrs. Campbell was born in Russell County, Virginia to the late Manie Alfred Smith and the late Alpha Kerr Smith, both of Dickenson County, Virginia. Mrs. Campbell was the oldest of five girls. She and her sisters were raised in Dickenson County, where her mother taught school and Mrs. Campbell graduated Valedictorian from her high school. In her early years, Mrs. Campbell moved to Johnson City where she met her future husband and was employed by Bell Telephone as an operator. Later, she worked in retail sales at the Nettie Lee Boys and Girls store in Johnson City.Mrs. Campbell and her husband, Paul, were active members of the Boones Creek Christian Church until her husbands health eventually precluded an active role in church activities. Until his death, she was his primary healthcare provider.Mrs. Campbell is survived by: her daughter, Cheryl Lynne Campbell Jones, son-in-law Paul B Jones, and granddaughter Kathryn Campbell Jones. She is also survived by: three sisters, Maisie Conley (husband John deceased), Peggy Georgeann Grizzle (Howard) of Roanoke, Virginia, and Linda Sue Critzer (Don) of Crozet, Virginia. Also surviving are a number of nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews. Mrs. Campbell was preceded in death by her sister Mayronne Kiser of Clintwood, Virginia. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 4, 2010 at Morris-Baker Funeral Home. Following the visitation, family and friends will proceed to Monte-Vista Memorial Park for the 2:30 p.m. graveside service. The family home will be open for friends and family following the graveside service. The family asks that in lieu of flowers or other expressions of sympathy, donations be made to the Boones Creek Christian Church, 312 Christian Church Road, Johnson City, Tennessee 37615 or to the National Alzheimers Association, 207 N Boone Street, Suite 1500, Johnson City, Tennessee 37604.
