Mrs. Lorene C. Kyker, 88, Johnson City, passed away Wednesday, July 27, 2016, following a brief stay at the Christian Care Center. Lorene was a native of Murfreesboro, TN and lived there through high school. She was the daughter of William Edgar and Cora Adams Compton. She grew up with several brothers and one sister. Her husband Howard Dayton Kyker preceded her in death, after 5o years of marriage. She has one surviving brother, Cantrell Compton, and many nieces and nephews, living in Murfreesboro. Locally she is survived by nephew, Joe T. Williamson, and wife Sandra of Jonesborough, niece, Susan Williamson Fondry and husband Robert of Roan Mountain, great-niece Rachel Mitchell and husband, Kevin, of Asheville, NC and great-niece Shelly Jennings and husband, Scott of Chucky, TN. She made her home in Johnson City in 1946, after completing nurses training at Appalachian Hospital School of Nursing. She worked as a Registered Nurse for 41 years. She worked several years as an industrial nurse at Gordon?s Furniture Company, but most of her career was spent in Obstetrics at Johnson City Memorial Hospital. She assisted in the move and transition to Johnson City Medical Center, working briefly in the Day Surgery Center before retiring. Lorene was a member of Cherokee Church of Christ. She treasured her many church friends, work friends, and neighbors. The family of Mrs. Lorene C. Kyker will receive friends from 10 to 11 AM Saturday, July 30, 2016, in the Morris-Baker Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 11 AM with Minister, Robert Tate officiating. The graveside committal service will follow in the Monte Vista Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.
