July 25, 1934 — May 22, 2018

Lowell Wayne Snodgrass, 83, of Oak Ridge, passed away Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at Canterfield Assisted Living in Oak Ridge. Wayne was born in Piney Flats in a home with no electricity, no running water or indoor plumbing, raised by a single mother until he was thirteen years old. After high school he hiked from Piney Flats to ETSU for two years to attend college. He then joined the Air Force and was stationed in Japan for four years, during which time he achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant. The GI Bill helped him to obtain his Bachelor?s Degree in Accounting, and when he was in his late thirties he went back to ETSU to achieve his Master?s Degree in Accounting while also raising three children. He went on the work at Holston Defense for thirty-three years and retired as the Principle Accountant. He spent his retirement traveling, gardening, and playing golf with his Piney Flats buddies as well as his son, Greg and brothers-in-law, Jim and Aut. He also loved to spend time with his grandchildren. He never turned down a chicken biscuit, hotdog, or cup of coffee. He will be remembered by those who loved and knew him best by his unconditional love. Wayne is preceded in death by his wife of fifty-seven years; Katheryn Frye Snodgrass; two-year-old daughter, Vicki Carole Snodgrass, and his mother, Nell Smalling Ramsey. Left to cherish his memory are his children, Dr. Gregory Snodgrass and his wife Leslie, of Oak Ridge, Denise Morton and her husband Joel, of Gray, and Paige Fletcher and her husband Bill, of Johnson City; his grandchildren, Marybeth Snodgrass, Sam Snodgrass, and Hannah Morton; and his granddog, Yoyo. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Saturday, May 26, 2018, at Piney Flats United Methodist Church. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM with Pastor Scott Brady officiating. A committal will be held at 3:00 PM at Monte Vista Memorial Park.
