Lucille Woody Burleson, 81, 1401 Woodmont Drive, devoted Christian, loving wife, mother and grandmother, went to be with her Lord on Thursday, September 17, 2009, at the Christian Care Center in Johnson City, surrounded by her family. She was born in Bakersville, NC, the eldest of 12 children to Tom and Carrie Woody on March 29, 1928. She had been a resident of Johnson City since 1958. She was a charter member of Grace Freewill Baptist Church and had been active in the Ladies Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband David H. Burleson, daughter Carrie Elizabeth Burleson, sisters Mary Greene, Shirley McCray, Pearl Peterson and Beryl Bennett, brothers Zeb Woody and Alfred Woody. Survivors include: four sons and three daughters-in-law; David Burleson, Don and Melissa Burleson, Mike and Brenda Burleson all of Johnson City, Terry and Lisa Burleson of Piney Flats. Grandchildren; Missi Crowder, Angela Bryant, Jennifer Burleson, Nikki Vanburen, Kelly Weems, Josh Burleson, Haley Burleson, Megan Burleson, Logan Burleson and Matthew Burleson. Great grandchildren; Miranda Vanburen, David Bryant, Alex Vanburen, II, Collin Keesecker, Savannah Reynolds and Cooper Weems. Brother; Charles Woody of Bakersville, N.C., Sisters; Mattie Styles, Sue Greene both of Bakersville, N.C., Barbara Taylor, Sharon Gail Fowler, both of Johnson City and numerous nieces and nephews. A celebration of life service is scheduled for Sunday, September 20, 2009, at Grace Free Will Baptist Church, 2110 Knob Creek Road, Johnson City under the direction of Rev. Curtis Hurt. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until time of service at 7:00 p.m. There will be a committal service on Monday September 21, at 3:30 p.m. in the Monte Vista Memorial Park. Family and friends are asked to assemble at the Morris '' Baker Funeral Home by 3:00 p.m. to leave in procession. Active pallbearers will be: Josh Burleson, Logan Burleson, Matthew Burleson, Sam Crowder, Alex Vanburen, and Doug Weems. Memorials may be made to the local Alzheimers Disease Foundation, Northeast TN Chapter, 207 N. Boone Street, Suite 1050, Johnson City, TN 37604. The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to all churches, family and friends for their prayers, generosity and kindness.
