Mabel Virginia Mitchell, 86, Johnson City, died Tuesday, September 15, 2009 at her residence. Mrs. Mitchell was a native of WVA and had lived in Johnson City since 1928. She was a daughter of the late Absolom and Mary Davenport Kyle. Mrs. Mitchell was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles Mitchell, Jr., one infant son, one sister, Frances Tyree and three brothers, Robert Kyle, Roy Kyle and James Paul Kyle. She had retired from Sears as a salesperson. Mrs. Mitchell was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Susanna Wesley Sunday School Class. She was survived by her wonderful daughter, Judy Cook, Johnson City; a fine son-in-law, Finley Cook, Johnson City; two sweet grandchildren, Brian Mitchell Cook and his wife, Nancy, Johnson City and Kathy Cook Huff and her husband, Scott, Jonesborough; five joyful great grandchildren, Brandon and Justin Cook, Kyle Cook-McCrary, Molly and Zane Huff; one sister-in-law, Helen Saylor and several nieces, nephews, special friends and a fine young man, Ronnie Benfield, who was like a son. A funeral service for Mrs. Mitchell will be conducted at 2:00 pm Thursday, September 17, 2009 from the Morris-Baker Funeral Home South Chapel. Reverend Garland Thayer and Reverend Tim Bracken will officiate. Special music will be provided by Dan Mahoney. Graveside service will follow at Monte Vista Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until service time Thursday. Pallbearers will be Roy Lee Kyle, Bobby Kyle, Steve Kyle, Steve McAllister, Mike Hale and Mark McKinney. For those who wish in lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to First United Methodist Church, 900 Spring Street, Johnson City, TN 37604.
