Macdonald Gouge

July 16, 1923 — December 29, 2010

MacDonald Gouge, age 87, of Johnson City, departed this life on Wednesday, December 29, 2010. He was born in the Dennis Cove section of Carter County to the late Sherman and Tamie Stevens Gouge. He is survived by his wife, Martha Dempsey Gouge; one son, Donald Gouge and wife Lynne Lovelace Gouge; two grandchildren, Andrew Clayton Gouge and Macy Marie Gouge; one sister, Geneva Young; one brother and sister-in-law, Rhudolph Gouge and wife Carolyn Ornduff Gouge; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Bethana Fine. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the European theatre of operations. He was a graduate of East Tennessee College and earned a Masters degree from the University of Tennessee. He was a retired teacher of the Elizabethton City School System. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Johnson City and a member of the Mr. and Mrs. Class. He loved all things beautiful; roses, music, poetry and greatest of all his family. The family will receive friends Sunday, January 2, 2011 from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm in the Morris-Baker Funeral Home South Chapel. The funeral service will follow at 3:00 pm in the Morris-Baker Funeral Home South Chapel with Dr. Henry Webb and Dr. Bill Gwaltney officiating. Burial will be held at 11:00 am Monday, January 3, 2011 in the Mountain Home National Cemetery with military honors to be rendered by the Boone Dam VFW Post #4933 and members of the Tennessee Army National Guard. Pallbearers will be nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be Steve Fair, the Mr. and Mrs. Class of First Christian Church and his neighbors in the Watauga Flats Community.
