Mrs. Mae Ledford Pope, 87, 104 Hillmont Drive, Johnson City passed away Friday, September 18, 2009 in the Johnson City Medical Center. Mrs. Pope was a native of Mitchell County, North Carolina and had lived most of her life in Johnson City. She was the daughter of the late James Garfield and Dora Belle Huskins Ledford. In addition to her parents one daughter, Annie Pope Layton; two grandchildren, Emily Robins and Michael McAllister; four brothers and three sisters also preceded her in death. Mrs. Pope was a homemaker and a member of the Liberty Fellowship Church. Survivors include: her husband of 65 years, Henry Clay Pope of the home; three daughters, Gussie Wynegar and her husband Fred of Johnson City, Peggy Robins and her husband Walter of Tampa, Florida and Suzzie Pope Tice and her husband Ed of Montana; one son, Ron Pope of Johnson City; one brother, Buck Ledford and his wife Libby of Johnson City; five grandchildren, Jonathan Clay Miller of San Diego, California, Sarah Robins of Tampa, Florida, Brian Hood of Apex, North Carolina, Audrey Layton of Gulfport, Mississippi and Thad Layton of Orlando, Florida; six great grandchildren; beloved friend and neighbor, Janice Ledford; several nieces and nephews. The family request that memorial contributions be made to the Liberty Fellowship Church, 101 East Holston Avenue, Johnson City, Tn. 37601. The funeral service for Mrs. Mae Ledford Pope will be conducted at 2 PM Monday, September 21, 2009 in the Liberty Fellowship Church. Rev. Dan Foster will officiate. The committal service will follow in the Roselawn Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be: Jonathan Clay Miller, Fred Wynegar, Jerry Howard, Anthony Estep and J.W. Stoneman. The family will receive friends from 12 noon to 2 PM Monday prior to the service.
