Magda Lena King

Magda King, 81, died peacefully in her sleep at the Veranda in Columbus, GA, on Sunday, November 20, 2005. Magda Lena Davidyan was born September 20, 1924, in Teheran, Iran, daughter of the late Ambassador, Amos of Armenia, and dressmaker, Dora, of Russia. In 1946, she married U.S. Army Master Sgt. Robert Benton King of Gray, TN, who was stationed with the Persian Gulf Command. Their marriage spanned forty years and produced three devoted children. Magda loved to walk and travel and divided her time between Alaska, Hollywood, CA, Moscow and Columbus, GA, area. She traveled well into her 70s and spoke five different languages fluently. She was preceded in death by her son, Harold Benton King, who died serving his country in Vietnam in 1967; her loving husband in 1986; and her brother, Boris Davidyan, of Moscow, in 1988. She is survived by her brother, Armen Davidyan and wife, Gala, of Hollywood, CA, sister-in-law, Bella Davidyan, of Moscow; her loving and devoted children, Robert Armen King and wife, Melanie, of Phenix City, AL, and Magdalena Katherine 'Lena' King Carroll and husband, CW05 Mike Carroll, of Fort Lewis, WA. She is also survived by her loving niece, Vlada Davidyan, of Hollywood, CA; and three nephews, Stanley, Alexander and Yuri Davidyan, of Moscow. Magda was known as Mom King to her loving grandchildren, Travis Benton King, of Johnson City, TN, James Darrow King, of Chattanooga, TN, Daniel Alexander King and wife, Kelly, of Columbus, GA, Michael Robert King Carroll, of North Pole, AK, Natasha Katherine King Carroll, of Fort Lewis, WA, Robert 'Bobby' Harold Hayes King and Abbie Lena King, both of Phenix City, AL. Mom King was especially proud of her only two great-grandchildren, Sidney Elizabeth King and Isabelle Alexandra King, both of Columbus, GA. The funeral service for Magda King will be conducted at 2 PM Friday, November 25, 2005, in the Morris-Baker South Chapel. Interment will follow in the Roselawn Memorial Park. The family wishes to express sincere thanks to Charles H. Redd Jr. and his extremely competent and genuinely caring staff at the Veranda Assisted Living Community. In lieu of flowers the family request that memorial donations be made to The Army Emergency Relief (AER) Fund in loving memory of Master SGT Robert Benton King and Magda King.
