Margaret Elizabeth Harlan, 95, of Gray, died Thursday, August 1, 2019 at NHC Healthcare of Johnson City. She was a native of Washington County, daughter of the late Horace Clifton Tate and Hazel Beatrize Riffey Tate.
Margaret was a retired homemaker.
She was the oldest living member of Oak Grove Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Thomas “Jack” Harlan in 1994, a son, John Alvin Harlan who died in VietNam and three brothers, Howard, Denver and James D. Tate.
Survivors include: two daughters, Joy Carr (Glen) of Bristol, Cathy Morgan (Ted) of Jonesborough; a son, Frank Harlan (Pat) of the home; five grandchildren, Tammy Decker of Jonesborough, Shannon Carson of Jonesborough, Jennifer Jackson of Telford, Heather Harlan of Gray, James Hopson of Kingsport; six great granddaughters, Kaley Decker, Haley Parrish, Emily Carson, Ashley Hopson, Brandi Hunt and Jasmin Hopson; four great great grandchildren, a half-brother, Ron Tate of Texas; a daughter-in-law, Pam Reed; a sister-in-law, Irene Tate; special friends, Evelyn Rhoton and Alexis Hensley; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 4, 2019 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm in the Dogwood Chapel. A funeral service is to follow under the direction of Rev. Sherrill Nave. A committal service is scheduled for Monday, August 5, 2019 at 10:00 am in the Mountain Home National Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be: David Decker, Jason Carson, Jamie Hopson, Boots Yarborough, Jim Davis and Keith Malone. Friends and family are asked to assemble at the cemetery by 9:50 am.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Shriners Jericho Temple and St. Judes.
