Margaret Elizabeth Slayton, 84, of 2803 Chestnut Lane, Johnson City died Monday, September 21, 2009 in Wellington Place of Johnson City. Mrs. Slayton was a native of Carter County and had lived in East Tennessee most of her life. She was a daughter of the late David L. and Stella Mae Leonard Watson. Mrs. Slayton retired from the Johnson City Medical Center in 1994 after thirty-five years of nursing as a LPN. She was a member of the Buffalo Valley Christian Church but attended the Oak Grove Christian Church. She is preceded in death by her first husband, Lloyd Slayton in 1976 and her second husband, James Dowdy in 1994. Survivors include: one daughter Judy and her husband Ron Townsend of Huntington Beach, CA; one son, Lloyd David and his wife Pamela Slayton of Elizabethton; one step-son, Michael Dowdy of Johnson City; one granddaughter, Cheryl and her husband Mike Winsten of San Clemente, CA; three grandsons, Paul W. and his wife Laura Townsend of Plymouth, WI, David Alan and his wife Ashley Slayton of Johnson City, and Matthew Slayton of Johnson City; one step-grandson, Mikey Dowdy; ten great grandchildren; two brothers, Harry Watson of Johnson City and Robert and his wife Kate Watson of Johnson City; several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service for Margaret Elizabeth Slayton will be conducted at 8 PM Wednesday, September 23, 2009 in the Morris-Baker North Chapel. Rev. Mack Houston and Ted Thomas, Minister will officiate. The family will receive friends in the funeral chapel from 6 to 8 PM Wednesday prior to the service. The graveside service will be conducted at 1 PM Thursday, September 24, 2009 in the Monte Vista Memorial Park. Everyone will meet at the cemetery.
