Marguerite Thompson Dennis

September 12, 1925 — January 19, 2011

Marrried to a retired Naval Officer, Marguerite Thompson Dennis passed away on January 19, 2011 at her home in Limestone, TN. She was the only child of the late Eula M. Thompson and the granddaughter of the late Mary McQuage of Salisbury, NC. She left Salisbury at the age of 12 and lived in several locations in Virginia before moving to Washington, D. C. where she spent her high school years, graduating from McKinley High School in 1942 and where she met her future husband and where they were married in 1943. She was 85. She lived in many locations throughout the U.S. while raising her three sons. She lived in London, England for three years where she was able to further her training as an artist through study at local art institutes in the use of oils. She produced numerous oil paintings for her home and for sale at art shows. She was a true crafts person, starting with ceramics in her early married life and progressing to brass rubbing, knitting and tole and oil painting. She lived three years in the Azores Islands, a part of Portugal. While living overseas she was able to visit France, Germany, Belgium, The Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Italy. Following her husbands retirement from the Navy at Memphis, TN in 1970, she moved to Guntersville, AL where she became a member of local civic organizations and sang in the local Methodist church choir. She had been an active choir member virtually all of her life, even playing the piano for her local church at the age of 10. She moved again in 1988 to Limestone, TN where she and her husband built their retirement home and became involved in the Jonesborough Methodist Church Choir. She is survived by her husband Reyburn, after 67+ years of marriage (72 yrs together), three sons, Donald of Limestone, Karl of Roanoke, TX and Jerry of Garland, TX; one grandson, David and one great grandson Calvin Rey, both of Jonesborough, TN. A graveside service for Marguerite Thompson Dennis will be conducted at 2 PM Sunday, January 23, 2011 in the Monte Vista Memorial Park. Rev. Tammy Wright will officiate. Minister, family and friends are requested to meet at the cemetery by 1:50 PM Sunday. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 PM Saturday, January 22, 2011 in the Morris-Baker Funeral Home.
