Sister-in-laws Anna Holmes Walls and Mary Holmes, brother-in-law Harry Purdy and several nieces and nephews also survive her. Mrs. Holmes was a graduate of Science Hill High School, and loved planning and attending class reunions. Mrs. Holmes spent many years playing 'Mama'? in various roles, including Cub Scouts as a den mother, and chaperoning all three of her children on band trips in junior high and in the Science Hill Band. She loved being 'Mimi'? and doing things with and for her grandchildren. In her healthier years, Marie loved to attend church. In the 1960s she taught youth at Clark Street Baptist Church. In later years she was a member of the Esther Sunday Sunday-School Class at Central Baptist Church in Johnson City. Marie worked several places in her adult years, including H & R Block, Aluminum and Glass on King Street, The Book Rack and the U. S. Census Bureau. The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 8, 2011 at Morris '?
