Marion Cabell Lonon

February 26, 1946 — February 6, 2020

Marion Cabell Wilkes Lonon, 73, of Johnson City, passed peacefully to be with her Lord on Thursday, February 6, 2020.

She was born February 26, 1946, daughter of the late Lieutenant Commander US Navy Clem C. Wilkes and Dorothy Miller Wilkes.

Cabell was a lifelong resident of Johnson City and member of St. John’s Episcopal Church. She attended East Tennessee State University and was a member of the ΑΟΠ sorority, graduating in 1969. She loved teaching the first grade children of Washington County Schools and retired after 26 faithful years of service.

Cabell was a member of the Junior League of Johnson City and a twenty-two year member of the Lioness Club, including holding the office of past President and Treasurer. She was awarded the highest honor in Lionism, the Melvin Jones Fellow.

On top of her love for reading and travel, she was well known for the love she held for her family, her quiet strength, determination, and perseverance.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her son, Jerry Dean Lonon Jr.

Survivors include her husband of forty-eight years, Jerry D. Lonon Sr.; daughter, Louisa P. Taylor and husband Jason; three grandchildren, Jessica, Sarah, and Jacob Taylor; brothers, Haynes Miller Wilkes and his wife Bonnie, and Clem C. Wilkes Jr. and his wife Tonya; sister, Dorothy Wilkes Bedor and her husband John; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, February 9, 2020, at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Johnson City, officiated by the Rev. Canon SuzeAnne Silla. Loved ones are invited to attend a celebration of life reception afterward at St. John’s Episcopal Church in the Great Hall. A graveside service will be held on Monday, February 10, 2020, at 1:00 PM at Monte Vista Memorial Park. Family and friends are asked to gather at the graveside by 12:50 PM.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Cabell’s honor to the ETSU Lion’s club Scholarship or to St. John’s Episcopal Church.
