Martha Lou Brockwell

Martha Lou Reaves Brockwell, 81, of 808 East Hillcrest Drive, Johnson City, died Tuesday, June 19, 2007 at the Fort Sanders Hospital in Sevierville. She was a native of Greene County, daughter of the late Ira Hansom and Alma Vance Stanton Reaves. Martha was a retired legal secretary who was employed by Thomas E. Mitchell and Tony Seaton for fifty years. In her forty-one year tenure on the Washington County Election Commission she was both the first female appointed election commissioner and the first female chair of an election commission in the State of Tennessee. She was a member of the Washington County Republican Executive Committee, Washington County Republican Women, and the East Tennessee Chapter of the American EX-POWs . Martha was a very active member of the Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Charles L. Brockwell in 2000; three brothers, Glenn M., James L. and Hugh H. Reaves and a sister, Inell Reaves Cheek. Suvrivors include: a niece, Harriette C. Carr of Gray and Johnny Wayne Greene of Opelika, Alabama who had made their home with her. Several nieces and nephews, Grandchildren, Blaine Carr, John A. Carr, Aneita Carr, Brooke Herzing and Valerie Herzing Jackson.A graveside service is scheduled for Monday, June 25, 2007 in the Mountain Home National Cemetery at 10:00 a.m. under the direction of Rev. Paul Seay. Active pallbearers will be: Blaine Carr, John Carr, Jerry Radford, Jason Radford, Jonathan Tipton, Joey Stanley and Tony Seaton. Honorary pallbearers will be John Lowry, Duard Aldridge Sunday School Class of the Wesley Memorial UMC, and members of the East Tennessee EX-POW organization. The family will receive friends at 808 E. Hillcrest, as well as on Sunday, June 24, 2007 at Morris-Baker from 1 to 4 PM.
