Martha Miller Sudderth

April 16, 1913 — May 11, 2013

Martha Miller Sudderth, age 100, of Johnson City, passed away Saturday, May 11, 2013, in the Johnson City Medical Center. Martha was a native of Chattanooga and had lived in Johnson City since 1952. She was the daughter of the late David Miller and Gertrude Sertel Miller. In addition to her parents her husband Everett E. Sudderth; two sisters, Nancy Patton and Juanita Shope also preceded her in death. Martha was a homemaker. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, where she had taught Sunday School for over thirty years. Survivors include one son, Robert Sudderth and his wife Jane; three daughters, Suzanne Berry and her husband David, Marilyn Backus and Jan Castillo and her husband Edward; three sisters, Nelda Jarvis, Bettye Reep and Joanne Vaughn; nine grandchildren, J. Nick Backus, M. Sean Backus, R. Thomas Sudderth, William E. Backus, Joseph B. Sudderth, Martha 'Betsy'? Cox, Jennifer Bingham, Aaron Sailors and Rebecca Williams; twenty-two great grandchildren; one great- great grandchild. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the First United Methodist Church, 900 Spring Street, Johnson City, TN 37604. The funeral service for Martha Miller Sudderth will be conducted at 7 PM Tuesday, May 14, 2013, in the Morris-Baker South Chapel. Rev. Garland Thayer will officiate. The graveside committal service will be conducted at 10 AM Wednesday in the Monte Vista Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be grandsons. Minister, family and friends are requested to meet at Morris-Baker by 9:30 AM Wednesday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 PM Tuesday prior to the service.
