Mary Alice Hammitt

Mary Alice Hammitt, 84, of Johnson City, went home to be with family and loved ones on Sunday, December 23, 2012 at the Johnson City Medical Center. She was a native of Washington Co., TN and a daughter of the late, Joseph and Minnie Wilson Norris. She was also preceded by her husband John D. Hammitt Sr., one son, Joseph P. Hammitt, and by five brothers and three sisters. Mrs. Hammitt was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include; one daughter, Rose Stratton of Johnson City; one son, John Hammitt, Jr. of Johnson City ; one Graddaughter, Alice Honeycutt of Johnson City; one sister, Peggy Hite of Manussa, VA; one brother, Faue Norris of Johnson City; one God-Given son, John Barry of Johnson City; five beloved pet; several nieces and nephews Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 pm Thursday, December 27, 2012 in the Morris-Baker South Chapel. Rev. Richard Estep will officiate. Burial services will be conducted at 2:00 pm Friday from the Washington County Memory Gardens. A procession will leave the funeral home at 1:30 on Friday. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 until 7:00 pm on Thursday and other times at the home of her daughter, Rose, 79 Niles Lane, Johnson City. Pallbearers will be John Barry, Keith Peters, Jr. Hipshair, Calvin Tipton and Michael Tipton.
