Mary Baum Puckett Huffine, 94, died on Thursday May 17, 2007, at #4 Tunbridge Court, East, the residence of her niece, Martha T. Hauff, who lovingly cared for her the last four years of her life, assisted by devoted friend, Kathy Williams. A native of Minneapolis, North Carolina, she had lived in Johnson City since 1926. Mary was the daughter of the late Martha Young Puckett and Jefferson Franklin Puckett, Sr. She was a member of First United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Venor J. Huffine, a beloved stepson, Fritz D. Huffine, two sisters, Pearl Townsend and Bearl Koskinen, four brothers, Finley, Plato, Bruce and J.F. Jr. Puckett, a niece, Susie Roberts, and two nephews, Jeff L. Townsend and Charles W. Puckett. Mary is survived by her sister, Nora B. Cook and her husband, Harry. Also surviving are a stepdaughter-in-law, Delores Huffine, two devoted step-granddaughters, Deborah Jennings and Tami Worsham, their husbands, Gary Jennings and Scott Worsham, four step-great-grandsons, Justin Jennings, Jordan Jennings, Zach Worsham and Seth Worsham, to whom she was 'Mamaw'?. Mary is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, and many loving friends. Mary Huffine lived a great blessed life; she loved her Lord, and He was foremost in every area of her life. She loved her church, and her many friends. She was active in the work of the church throughout her life, a much loved Sunday School teacher, especially during the years she was a part of East Park United Methodist Church. She had much interest in the mission emphasis of United Methodist Women, holding varied offices and serving as President at East Park for many years. Following the closing of that church , she joined First United Methodist, where she had active membership, particularly in the Circle of Hope. Mary is well remembered as a Stanley Dealer in earlier times and also as an employee at the Veterans Administration. Mary Baum is lovingly remembered by many as manager of Pucketts Grocery on Forest Avenue, where she developed a host of lasting friendships. Mary was a principal caregiver for numerous family members during their illnesses; her concern for the elderly disabled led her to serve as a volunteer at Asbury Place, joyously serving twelve years as President of the Womens Auxiliary.
