Mary Christine Blevins

June 9, 1925 — April 2, 2019

Mary “Christine” Blevins, lovingly known as “Teenie,” died on Tuesday, April 2, 2019, at the age of 93, at her residence in Johnson City, Tennessee.
A native of Jonesborough, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late Hugh and Mary Sammons Blevins.
She was a member of the Locust Street Church of Christ for over 80 years. She taught Sunday School for many years and she is fondly remembered by many of her students.
Christine was a member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha, Alpha Pi chapter, for over 60 years. Her membership in ESA gave her many “sisters” whose friendships resulted in many activities and trips to conventions.
After graduating from Jonesborough High School, she attended Johnson City Business College for a year and then began what would be her career for over 60 years. She started her career with the Skipworth family in the moving business, then worked for office furniture stores for over 40 years, and lastly, she was a store manager for Budget Office Furniture until her retirement in 2003. The time she spent working in the public afforded her friendships and relationships with many people which she cherished.
Christine’s greatest accomplishment was being the “dad” to her sister’s children when their father passed away at an early age. She loved these children as her own and moved her personal happiness to the background. Donald, Douglas, David, and Diann loved her in return as their “Dad” and later, their second mother. Their children and grandchildren loved her as “Teenie.”
She and her close friend, Stanley, enjoyed a friendship over 50 years, which included UT football games, traveling, movies, and eating out.
In addition to her parents, Christine is preceded in death by: her brother, Harry Blevins; sisters, Bernice Broyles and Carolyn Blevins; nephew, Donald Broyles; great-nieces, Tammie Ruston and Cindy Grubbs; great-great-nephews, Odell Presley and Andrew Wilmot; and her special friend of many years, Stanley Yokum.
Christine is survived by: her nephews, Douglas (Joyce) Broyles, David (Patricia) Broyles, and Russell (Meg) Blevins; nieces, Mary Grubbs, Diann Broyles, and Barbara Broyles; great-nephews, Darryl Broyles and Austin Blevins; great-nieces, Sandi Gary, Jennifer Tester, Scottye Broyles, Brooke Hardy, Sloane Presley, Amanda Blevins, and Alice Blevins; great-great-nephews, Hunter, Eli, Hogan, Kendric, Graylon, John, Shane, and Lane; and great-great-nieces, Payton, MaryGrace, Stella Grace, and Lauren.
A service for Christine will be at 2:30 pm on Saturday, April 6, 2019 at Morris-Baker Funeral Home in the Oak Chapel, officiated by Dr. Barry Blackburn. A private family burial will take place at Monte Vista Memorial Park at a later date. Pallbearers will be great and great-great nieces and nephews and Daniel Remine. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Samaritan’s Purse (www.samaritanspurse.org/donate) or Appalachia Service Project (4523 Bristol Hwy, Johnson City, TN 37601).
