Mary Duncan, 90, passed away on Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at NHC HealthCare in Johnson City. Mrs. Duncan had suffered a life-altering stroke in May 2008. Her work career began as a teenager at HP King Co. in Bristol. After marriage, she was a homemaker and mother. After her children started college, she returned to work as the first fountain manager at F.W. Woolworth?s in the Towne Square Center in Greeneville. She also worked as a cashier at various Food City stores and ended her work career as a service writer for Anderson Catalog Sales in Johnson City. Mrs. Duncan was an avid sports fan, particularly enjoying UT football and NASCAR. She was considered an expert quilter. Mr. and Mrs. Duncan were members of Wesley United Methodist Church in Johnson City. Mrs. Duncan was the youngest daughter of the late Henry Hill Barr and Virginia (Winigar) Barr of Bristol, VA. She was preceded in death by: three brothers, Ray Barr, Howard Barr, and Clyde Barr; three sisters, Sallie Mae Holmes, Mabel Ball, and Florence Fletcher; and by her husband, William H. Duncan in April 2015. Mrs. Duncan is survived by: one son and daughter-in-law, Ken and Barbara Duncan of Kingsport; one daughter, Brenda Morison of Johnson City; one granddaughter, Erin Duncan; two brothers, Perry F. Barr of New Braunfels, TX and Donald H. Barr of Bristol, TN; and numerous nieces and nephews. The Duncans were former residents of Greeneville, TN. The family would like to especially thank Holly Burton, Becky Hale, Robin Hodge, Christine Gunn, Pat Woodward and the nursing staff at NHC HealthCare in Johnson City for their assistance in caring for our mother these past several months. There was no formal visitation. A private burial service took place at Glenwood Cemetery in Bristol, TN.
