Mary Elizabeth Wilson Markland, age 82, of Johnson City, passed away peacefully Sunday morning, June 28, 2020 at the Johnson City Medical Center.
Mary was born June 30, 1938 in Johnson City to Joseph William Wilson and Helen Deyton Wilson. In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, William Lee “Bill” Markland and brothers-in-law, Harmon Gouge and Jim Fields. Mary was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will be deeply missed.
Mary retired from Hamilton/Suntrust Bank after 42 years of faithful service. She was currently employed by Johnson City Mini Warehouses.
Mary was a lifetime member of Antioch Baptist Church where she served in many areas of church duties. She headed up many financial committees as well as other church positions. Mary loved life and enjoyed activities such as: camping, square dancing, riding motorcycles with her husband, watching her granddaughter dance and play music, knitting, going to her nephews many ballgames, celebrating with her family and spending lots of time with her daughter, granddaughter, and great-granddaughter.
She is survived by her daughter, Joan (and Eddie) Stoneman; granddaughter, Cassie (Darrin) Neeley; great-granddaughter, Olivia Michelle; brother, Joe M. (and Pam) Wilson; sisters, Judy Wilson Fields and Linda Wilson Gouge; and several nieces and nephews: Scott Fields, Sarah Mabe, Zac Wilson, Luke Wilson, Cory Fields, Cooper Mabe, Bennett Mabe, Alex Wilson, Easton Mabe, Jay Wilson, and Emmett Fields.
The family of Mary Markland will visit with friends from 5:00-7:00 pm on Thursday, July 2, 2020 at Antioch Baptist Church. There will be a memorial service immediately following at 7:00 pm, under the direction of Pastor Pete Tackett. For everyone’s safety, friends are asked to maintain a safe distance and follow CDC guidelines for Covid-19 regulations.
In lieu of flowers, those who desire may make a memorial contribution to Antioch Baptist Church (1014 Antioch Rd, Johnson City, TN 37604) or the Washington County Animal Shelter (3411 N Roan St, Johnson City, TN 37601).
