Mary Elizabeth Penuel

Mary Elizabeth Penuel, 84, Johnson City, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 17, 2017, at her residence after a long illness, surrounded by her loving niece and caregivers. She was an amazing, strong and independent woman, who loved spending time with family and friends. Elizabeth was born in Piney Flats to the late James Monroe and Betty Milhorn Penuel. Elizabeth graduated from Mary Hughes High School in 1951 and from Steed Business College in 1953. She also worked as a sales representative at S. H. Kress and Company. She was employed as a secretary at ASG Glass Fabricators from 1954 through 1977 and worked for Amerace Corporation as a Human Resource Manager from 1978 until her retirement in 1997. She was a member at New Bethel Presbyterian Church in Piney Flats. Survivors include: her sister, Peggy Penuel Torbett; her brother-in-law, Eli ?Tab' A. Torbett; and her special niece, Kevyn Elizabeth Torbett. Special thanks to her wonderful caregivers, Kathy Atwell, Ashley Atwell, Diana Reid, Brenda Kish and Annah Twitty. The family of Elizabeth Penuel will receive friends from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM Wednesday, December 20, 2017, at New Bethel Presbyterian Church in Piney Flats. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 PM with Rev. Eric Spoon officiating. Pallbearers include: Kathy Atwell, Ashley Atwell, Diana Reid, Clyde Arnold, Don Newell, Steve Gross, and honorary pallbearer, Brenda Kish. The committal service will immediately follow the funeral at New Bethel Cemetery.
