Mary Ellen Howell, age 84, of Johnson City, died Sunday, May 8, 2011, at the Christian Care Center of Johnson City. Mrs. Howell was a Morristown native who had lived most of her life in Johnson City. She was a daughter of the late James Edward and Lucille Moyer Gregg. She was a homemaker. In addition to being a loving mother to her four children, she was a caring presence in the Sinking Creek community '? always there to reach out to others with a helping hand. Mrs. Howell was a gifted pianist and organist, and was active in the Berea, The 'Y'?, Keystone, and Johnson City Free Will Baptist churches. She was a past Sunday school teacher, service musician, youth director, and member of ladies circles. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: her husband, Robert 'Bob'? Howell, and stepmother, Nellie Gregg. Survivors include: son, Steve Howell, and his wife Judy, Johnson City; three daughters, B.J. Miller and Marilyn Andes, and her husband Mike, all of Johnson City, and Brenda Fillers, and her husband Roger, Jonesborough; two brothers, James and Clarence Gregg, both of Johnson City; sister, Caroline Mobley, Jonesborough; nine grandchildren, Rebekah Cunningham, Matthew Howell, Tanya Tisor, and her husband Mike, Leanne Sanders, and her husband Pete, Andrea Dykes, and her husband Jeremy, Melissa Howell, Jason Andes, Ayla Miller, and Zack Miller; ten great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mary Ellen Howell will be conducted 8:00 PM Tuesday, May 10, 2011, in the Morris-Baker North Chapel. Pastor Jeremy Dykes will officiate. Mr. Roddy Bird and Mr. Jerry Barnett will provide special music. Pallbearers will be: Matthew Howell, Mike Tisor, Pete Sanders, and Zack Miller. Burial will follow graveside services conducted 10:00 AM Wednesday at the Washington County Memory Gardens. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery for those services. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.
