Mary Gage Martin

October 1, 1928 — July 13, 2011

Mary Gage Martin, 82, of Johnson City, passed away on Wednesday, July 13, 2011 in Elizabethton. She was a native and lifelong Johnson City resident and a daughter of the late Fred and Minnie Byers Daugherty. She was also preceded by her 1st husband, Howard 'Worm'? Gage and by her 2nd husband, D. C. Martin and by one son, Jim Gage and one sister, Leola Peterson. She was a member of the Boones Creek Christian Church. Mrs. Martin was the owner and operator of Gages Grocery in Boones Creek for over 50 years. She was a member of the Johnson City VFW Ladies Auxillary and was very active in many community functions. Survivors include; one daughter, Nancy Gage Lipford and her husband Gary of Elizabethton; one son, William ' Bill'? Gage of Greenville; one sister, Opha 'Tooty'? Mathis of Virginia Beach, VA; one Grandson, Christopher Lipford and his fiancée, Miranda Long of Kingsport; one Grand daughter, Jamie Lipton of Elizabethton; one Great Grand daughter, Mila Lipford; several nieces and nephews. Over the years, there have been many special friends and two are Pansy Carver and Barbara Tilson. A special thank you goes to the ladies of Boones Creek Christian Church and her neighbors who provided her with loving care, transportation and food. A special thank you also goes out to the caregivers, Nurses and staff of Hermitage Health Care. Thank you to Doctors Walters and Vermillion. Funeral services will be conducted at 8:00 pm Friday from the Morris-Baker South Chapel. Dr. Vic Young and Mr. Dick Morris will officiate. Burial services will be held at 10:30 am Saturday in the Monte Vista Memorial Park. A procession will leave the funeral home for the cemetery at 10:15 am Saturday. Pallbearers will be Gary Black, Ron Hines, Steve Lawarance, Dan Uren, Lynn Hodge, Jim Shipley and Sherrell Gage. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 until 8:00pm Friday.
