Mary Hyder Foxx, 88, 1403 Lynnwood, died Wednesday, March 5, 2008 at her residence following a lengthy illness. She was an Elizabethton native and a daughter of the late W. Ray and Bertha Elizabeth Hyder. She was a graduate of Elizabethton High School and East Tennessee State College. Mrs. Foxx retired from teaching home economics at Happy Valley High School. She was a member of Watauga Avenue Presbyterian Church. Her husband, Paul E. Foxx, preceded her in death in 1987. Survivors include one daughter, Elizabeth F. Dale and her husband Don of Jonesborough; one son, Richard P. Foxx and his wife Brenda of Rosemount, Minnesota; two granddaughters, Layla Zagorsky and her husband Trent of Desoto, Kansas and Haley Foxx of Rosemount Minnesota; several cousins including, Mrs. Robert E. Cardwell of Elizabethton, Helen Zeller of Johnson City and Mrs. Neville T. Clayton of Daytona Beach, Florida; several nieces and nephews; her devoted cat Snickers. The funeral services for Mary Hyder Foxx will be conducted at 11 AM Saturday March 8, 2008 in the Watauga Avenue Presbyterian Church. George L. Rolling, Pastor will officiate. The entombment service will follow in the Monte Vista Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church from 10 to 11 AM Saturday prior to the service. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Watauga Avenue Presbyterian Church, 610 East Watauga Avenue, Johnson City Tn 37601 or Washington County Humane Society, 525 Sells Avenue, Johnson City Tn 37604.
