Mary Katherine Oliver

June 3, 1944 — June 11, 2020

Mrs. Mary Katherine Oliver, 76, of Johnson City, passed away on Thursday, June 11, at the Johnson City
Medical Center following a brief illness.

Mary was a lifelong resident of Johnson City. She was the daughter of the late William E. and Ruby Blair
Tester.

Mary worked for K-Mart for 50 years and loved her work family dearly. She enjoyed working in her
flowers and looked forward to planting her garden every spring. Mary lived for her family and was able
to enjoy their company and love in the years after her retirement. She loved going on shopping sprees
with her daughter, which always included Joel Osteen on the radio, a stop at Cracker Barrel, and Scott’s
Farm Market. Mary took care of everyone around her and enjoyed nothing more than spending time
with her children, grandchildren, and beloved great-grandchildren. Mary treated everyone like family
and was surrounded by a neighborhood of family that was dear to her heart. Mary was a kind and
generous lady who always found room in her heart for every person or stray animal that needed her
care.

Mary was a lifelong Baptist.

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Dean Oliver, and one
brother, James W. Tester.

Survivors include: son, Wayne Oliver; daughter, Sherry Jones and husband Bill; one sister, Phyllis
Hamm; one grandson, David Oliver and wife Andrea; two great-grandchildren, Emma and Jaxson Oliver;
several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews; and a host of family and friends.
